I'm of the belief that Krakens are extremely large Ammonites.

But you know what would be cool?

If there were Ammonite Kraken, Squid Kraken and Octopi Kraken...and maybe even Cuttlefish Kraken.

Well you need to earn a reputation amongst the working force of the sea, mostly by destroying boats but ensuring some of the crew survive to tell the tale. The more havoc you cause, and the more identifiable you are when you are doing it, then the more likely you will be branded a Kraken.

Because nowadays there hasn't been an opening in the Kraken department in awhile because there haven't been many good cephalopods in the market that could take the title.
