Yes and no? It seems more like a thread about the quirks and weird idiosyncrasies of those areas.

relations of minnesota to other states:

if you grow up here you will come to one of three different conclusions

    * you decide there are too few people and you move to New York

    * you like it ok so you stay

    * you decide there are too many, you move to Alaska

Wisconsin is like Minnesota except without the artsiness of the twin cities and absolutely astounding amounts of drunk driving

we talk shit because deep down we are jealous of the fact that the all you can drink milk booth at the Wisconsin state fair has a wider variety of flavors

There's such a thing as an all you can drink milk booth?

Makes me wonder what kind of foodstuffs Virginia's state fair would have you gorge on. Wine would be right out, for obvious reasons, even though Virginia is quite proud of its wine, so I wonder what else there is.

    Apple cider and pork.

I used to live in Virginia, if briefly.

Ah, makes sense. I completely forgot about apple country. :(

(I live in Virginia, too, but the State Fair is something I've never, ever been to.)

I lived in Blacksburg, way out on the western border, and there was a small, unkempt orchard in my back yard, so I was quite aware of the apple thing.

Oh wow, apples in Hokie country. I associate them more with Winchester and the Shenandoah Valley (there's a huge apple processing plant on I-81 somewhere around Mt. Jackson), but I imagine they can grow anywhere up and down that corridor.

...I have lived in both Montgomery Counties, my god. That is weird.

    Huh.

Reminds me of how WV and NJ both have a Mercer County, and both of them have a Princeton in them.

    Bump for somewhat off-topic-ness

How artsy are the Twin Cities?

I read on City-Data that Kansas City has a better art and food scene than Denver (Denver's food scene rarely seems to be complimented)

reading up on our food scene we do love our bison

I've always found the notion of eating red meat at all off-putting, honestly
