Why do people hate costumes?

Adults who like to wear costumes are often ridiculed. This despite it being one of the fun things about football. This despite it being most of the appeal of Halloween.

What's so bad about slipping into a guise?

Well, I don't think it's considered "normal" for adults to want to dress up in costumes, unless it's a special occasion like Halloween.

But I don't know any adults so whatever

For what it's worth, I have several adult friends that are into cosplay and nobody thinks they're weird for it. They just kind of do it in places or situations where people expect costumes to show up.
