first off, I'm not quite understanding how spell slots work. Can I just know, functionally, any spell, and then my spell slots are just how many spells of a given level my character can memorize?
Secondly, where the fuck do you find a stat block for a basic snake? I want to make a subsheet for my familiar and I cannot find this anywhere for some reason.
Spell slots are a bit weird in 5e. Essentially, you're a 3.5e sorcerer - you don't have to assign spells to spell slots. That's just how many spells of that level you can cast. You're a fixed-list caster from 3.5, essentially: you can just change that list using your spellbook.
Poisonous snakes are in the DM Basic Rules v 0.3 and presumably onward.
So there's not actually a practical limit on how many spells I "know" as there is with a sorcerer, just how many I have actively prepared from a spellbook?

Was this the most ridiculous monster, power level-wise that 3.X D&D gave us?
When Mexico sends its players, they’re not sending their best. They’re druids. They’re bards. & some, I assume, are lawful good. #dnd #trump
