It does make for a good intro to someone who has never role-played before, I've found. The reduction of options makes character creation a bit more easier.
So does Quest 64. Does make it necessarily a popular game :P
On a serious note, I found 3.5 more inviting. Honestly, with how stupid I am, when it talks about the weapons, I couldn't tell if it meant the strength mod or the strength score to damage/to hit. Because it didn't perfectly specify like ti does in 3.5.
The only confusing aspect of 3.5 is Turning Undead, really. The rest is more long and boring at most.
Pun-Pun is a famous powergaming Kobold. I think people only want memetic characters sometimes.
I was not offended by that either. I just have problems with gateway systems not being clear on the rules. I've noticed sometimes that "For Dummies" series actually poorly explain stuff.
For instance if I wanted to play a Changeling Summoner in 4e, I couldn't do that. Because 4e, if I am understanding correctly, has rules for neither summoners nor Changelings.
Pathfinder is, afaik, if you don't mind stats and a bit of unbalance traded in for super-customizability.
It does, but not at first. There are a lot more books, but I feel it's too honestly generic in itself. I don't feel like I'm designing a character to roleplay as so much as throwing a face onto a model and adding some stats.
3.5 did a bit more with this, and not just because of weight alone. it even emphasized more on background than powers. Unless you're playing a monsterous race in 4th Edition, you barely need a major background.

"Changelings as in Pathfinder Changelings."
Ah, I was talking about 4th.
"Do I get an Eidolon?"
I think the summoner class in 4th is way different than the one in Pathfinder. So I don't think there's really an equivalent to this in the Summoner path.

I've never bothered making the attempt.
The amount of monsters already at my disposal is enough. I do tend to use they're rules for leveling up or down a monster depending on what I want, though.
I like homebrewed stuff. I'm not good with story, so unique characters/monsters do a lot more for me. That, and frankly, I do not find story very important in a game, although it helps.
Eidolons basically let you command a creature that is moldable to your tastes.
They did a poor job of showcasing this feature, though. The only two examples of ones that are illustrated are what's essentially a demonic rooster and this ugly-ass thing.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Aww, I like the ugly-ass thing. He's adorable.
I've never gotten around to playing D&D, but I think I'd another one of those people who likes to play as magic users because they like magic and not for game breaking or anything like that.

Magic could be fun.
I actually really liked pisonics, especially suggest (there is a spell that does this, too).
Basically, you can tell people like; that "acid is refreshing water", "Your friends are out to kill you!", "Your wife is really a slime demon!"; and if they failed there saving roll, they'd believe it.
With the exception of one campaign, where our DM explicitly wanted us to break the game. I played as a Sorcerer who used an obscure feat to get Wish as a spell-like ability ^_^

Not really. I don't find them that broken as long as the DM knows what the hell he's doing.
That's why I tend to think that if you're using Psionics, players should be allowed to use Spell Points. At their discretion. I prefer Spells Per Day for the sake balance, personally.
Anyway, I remember one of the Powers is... gain a d12 of health. Sounds broken, right? You cannot much power it up, and you can NOT use it on anyone else like any other healer. I find Psionics only really good for tanks myself. They're good for one-man wrecking crews, but that's it.
No, they cost they cost 17 points per piece. It's what created the Spell Points system. For every level, you must pay 2 more than the earlier level. Just like Spell Points.
So your points do get low soon enough.
I do like them, yes. But you're giving them incorrect credit. I don't disagree with them being broken, but a DM can fix this quite easily with the right amount of monsters/storyline, etc. Psionics are not for new DM's.
My only one was Wodahs Rodriguez, and as the name suggests, he was based upon Shadow The Hedgehog. Also, he was a Psychic Warrior, and even had Teleport.
I was playing Quest 64 and forgot how the Power Points system worked. So I was unintentionally cheating. I caught myself and purposely removed the rest of the points.
So currently we're investigating a broken-down wagon that is likely the victim of Kobold raids. My Eidolon is being dismissive of them, while our trappish rogue is going to investigate the wagon.

Changelings as in Pathfinder Changelings. Half-Hags.
Do I get an Eidolon?
I just looked up the list for Summon Monster I, since I get it as a spell-like ability.
One of the things I can summon?
GODDAMN PONIES

T'was my point, Justice.
Also, I like Eidolons. Since it's basically "Summon Homebrew Monster".

So I am waiting for our first Pathfinder session to start.
We're unfortunately missing one person, but the other person we're waiting on is just getting food.
Yes.
A customizable summon creature, I explained this a bit further up the page.
Yeah. So our first session has ended with a collective ragequit.
That's always nice.
edit: well now we're apparently going to keep going provided I keep my questions to private.
Yeah, I'm really fucking stupid about this game, apparently.
We're doing better now.
Also I am summoning A SCREAMING EAGLE OF FLAMING JUSTICE

It was fun once we figured out what to do.
I don't have issues with the system so much as I am bad at understanding rules that involve more than one step. I'm stupid like that.
1E, 2E, 3E, 3.5, 4E, and Pathfinder, as far as I know.
No one really plays 1-3 anymore. As far as I know.
