I saw it on Monday and found it to be brainless, utterly forgettable semi-entertainment. But it had the biggest worldwide opening weekend of all time and it has great buzz. Did the people want a good brainless movie?
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I suppose what I'm getting at here is that I'm not a big fan of huge Hollywood machine event pictures anymore. It doesn't help that a lot of the ones I've seen have lost their luster after two or three viewings.
The Mysterious Ballerina and her Tree Stump Ghosts
I guess it would make sense to have a big opening if nothing else, since it's a follow on from a very popular film series and has a neat concept (as has been said, dinosaurs). Whether or not it has any staying power once you've seen it the first time on the opening weekend, well
Wasn't that supposed to be the appeal of Fury Road?
I've also pretty much lost my taste for huge Hollywood machine event pictures, but based on what I've heard about both, I think I would rather Fury Road be this successful than Jurassic World.
i imagine that its being part of a successful franchise and having a strong marketing campaign had something to do with that, plus, as has been said, dinosaurs
i'd be wary of assessing the popularity of something on the basis of the number of people who watched it, because it's perfectly possible to watch something and dislike it

They were probably relieved at a movie they didn't have to write thinkpieces about.
now he...what the hell is george lucas doing nowadays
owning Disney stock, also being grateful that no one is pointing fingers at him for helping to mastermind the wage-fixing conspiracy that involves Pixar and ILM

I mean, the characters are sort of cliche and it does feel like a rehash of the original, but the acting's solid and the visual spectacle is something to see.

Also I generally concur with this thinkpiece: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2015/06/16/jurassic-world-sexism-bryce-dallas-howard/28811873/
He might be a bigger charisma void than Leno was

(Yes, I am saying this towards the people who hate Jurassic World but love the MCU, too.)
