  I actually do agree that the hate towards Mortdecai is somewhat overblown and that the desire to tear down Johnny Depp is kinda sad. I still think that trying to defend stuff like that (however half-heartedly) is going entirely the wrong direction, though.
  
  The way you should be handling this stuff is to try to point out how it isn't really that much different from the stuff nerds love, and that it just happens to not hide the troublesome aspects with a veneer of professionalism and spectacle.
