  I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

  I find it interesting how lenient Banjo-Tooie is in that respect compared to its predecessor. You need at least 94 out of 100 Jiggies to finish Banjo-Kazooie, but only 70 out of 90 Jiggies to finish B-T.

  I wondered if it was because Tooie had larger maps, or perhaps because the jigsaw puzzles themselves are part of the game and take a progressively less trivial effort to solve.

  True.  And the fact that you were rewarded for your combined high score for each level rather than simply how many notes you had collected over the course of the game encouraged you to complete each level in one go.
