I prefer to play with monotype teams because it's interesting (I am working on a "regular" team, though). You're free to do whatever you like.

How you challenge a player is by finding their name in that little chat bar on the left, right-clicking, and hitting "challenge". A box will pop up asking you to specify some conditions, and when you hit the accept button there, it'll send the challenge.

What you need to do to fix this is usually remove a move that a Pokemon on your team can't technically have. Usually, those aren't even available as options, but sometimes one will slip through.
As an example, I tried to give a pokemon Confuse Ray earlier that couldn't learn it, and had to change it to something else.
It should've given you a warning, if not, you might have to hunt it down manually.
edit: now you're gone again so maybe that was just a server bug on my end.

Lampent learns Curse at level 45, Shadow Ball at 53, Pain Split at 61, and Overheat at 69. So I'm guessing 53, unless you have a Shadow Ball TM.

Curse has a different effect with non-Ghost types than Ghost types. It boost Attack and Defense and lowers Speed.
But for Chandelure, it would indeed be Poison but weirder, so feel free to skip it.

I don't really like Curse. Is there some trick to it that I don't understand? It's basically poison but weirder.
Shadow Ball is definitely worth learning though. I need a strong-ish ghost attack.

If you're going against a gym leader, using Curse on his/her headliner and switching out for another pokemon would help out a bit.
