I am not about to defend the site's quality. I'm just more than a little unnerved by the implications. I would not be surprised if Mediafire, Rapidshare, etc. follow.

Mediafire does a good job taking down illegal links, they don't reward any particular content, and it's less well known.

I recall people complaining about it somewhere.

Also, Mediafire has ads too. Not as many, but ads are ads.

Megaupload had quite a reputation for completely ignoring orders to take down illegal content.

Mediafire is better at following court orders, Rapidshare is the best.

Considering how little I use direct download services, this doesn't affect me too much directly.

One of the questions I would be having seems to answered and that it's not simply that copyrighted material was being uploaded, it was that it was being uploaded, Megaupload personnel where being made aware, and the proceeded to do nothing.

I can see how that would get them into trouble.

I mostly used it to acquire illegal content (bar 3D Custom Girl modpacks, Yume Nikki and japanese fancomic translations), so I can see why they had to go.

Megaupload (and Megavideo for that matter) were dumb anyway. MU had ridiculous wait times that I always forgot about while doing other things, and MV had that crappy 72 minute limit, rendering any film that wasn't a direct-to-video Disney flick absolutely useless for half its runtime.

I'm about to go almost fully straight and switch to a Netflix/Redbox rental system for my movies anyway, so this isn't much of a loss.

Everyone uses the Chinese sites anyway.
