It's just fascinating to me because usually with optical-illusion type things if I stare long enough I can force myself to see the "other" option, but no matter how long I look at this dress I cannot see black and blue.

Because we need reminders that people look at the same thing differently. And as far as objective truths go, this is a remarkably simple, straightforward thing that people nevertheless draw wildly different conclusions on.
I again see it as kind of white-and-gold, probably because my monitor has changed color warmth.

Paste it into MS Paint and check the RGBA. It's fucking blue. If for whatever reason the dress was not physically blue, then it's not an optical illusion -- it's the camera overcompensating when it takes a digital picture.

I've seen enough bad digital photos over the years that, upon glancing at it the first time, my mind compensated for what it assumed was crappy white balance and perceived the blue as white.
Only once I knew it was supposed to be blue was I able to see the blue there.
