I view use of anything but the default font as inappropriate for homework and forum posts. It's like trying to stand out in an insubstantial way. Though, I did use Times New Roman instead of the Calibri or whatever that was default on my word processor for a homework assignment, since I thought TNR was more a more common default.
I might be inclined to change my tune depending on the project involved, but I'm not the sort of person with any drive to get involved with such projects.
I actually like Calibri, for when Times New Roman looks too formal. But I do suck at using computers, so it's accurate. (You can tell I'm not that much of a font person, either.)
I think Inconsolata looks slightly better than Courier New, as far as monospace fonts go. Again, it looks less formal to me, somehow.

Calibri is growing on me. I used to dislike it in print because I thought the rounded corners made it look like a bad photocopy, but I guess I've just gotten used to it.
I keep wondering what non-print applications it might have, though and whether it has any potential.

I'm compelled to mention that its rounded corners are not unique to it; this is a new technique done to avert the "sausage" effect on older rounded sans-serif faces. (Newer adherents to it include Stag Sans Rounded and Museo Sans Rounded.)

I know, but the rounded corners struck me as particularly inappropriate for a typeface that is the default in Microsoft Word and thus will be printed by many, many people who don't realize it's not well suited for print.
I find Calibri very undistracting, which I think is good. And it has a slightly friendly feel, though that doesn't make any sense. TNR feels very overtly serious, to me.

I was surprised when I found out how old it was.
See, even that seems classy in Garamond.

What do you think of Tahoma?
Yeah it does, at least to me.
Also Tahoma/Verdana is alright, in that context at least.

This thing needs Andale Mono.
