It's been a year since its absorption by Gannett and I still find Belo's disappearance regrettable...Gannett doesn't seem to have fucked anything up, but still...
nah, just because something exchanged goods and services for money with the intent of making a profit doesn't mean that you can't mourn the process of getting or the particulars of said goods and services
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
it's weird how I get all choked up about this when Belo had no presence in Denver (though they once owned KOA radio and its FM sibling, which is now KRFX), but Gannett did

My eye fell over this post and for half a second before I actually parsed it I thought it was final fantasy
Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Yes, yes, it is wrong. Corporate enterprises aren't people, just like how proteins make up a human body, but we aren't just protein. They are so far removed.
Now, local enterprises, as what Tachyon and GMH suggests, those are only one level removed from people. Those you can mourn.
If they did their job well and didn't screw people over too horribly in the process, go ahead. I'd be sad if Costco tanked. I'd be sad if Google tanked, even if they do some really shady shit, because the alternative is M$.
does that include establishments that, while corporate, have nostalgic properties because of previous connections?
like, I'm not particularly disappointed that I can't buy stuff from the corporation known as Circuit City anymore, but I still have a certain nostalgia for the brand because my dad worked there when I was young

i'm quite sad that woolworths and blockbuster don'tt exist any more actually
though i think that's more of a sadness for the death of cheapo pick-n-mix bags of tooth-destroying 90s sweets and rental shops offering VHSes and PS1 jetskiing racing simulators

But then they closed down last November, I think.
