This just occurred to me, If the Occupy crowd are in fact the %99, then why don't they just push for an amendment to the Constitution that will allow and/or require the federal government to do what they want them to do? It seems easy enough for %99 of the US population to elect representatives that would do that, right?

You're right on that count protected by the first and ninth amendments to the US Constitution but the first specifies to peaceably assemble so that makes it foggier as to whether they are protected in a rather aggressive assembly that has included aggravated assault and property damage.

The 99% isn't supposed to refer to how many people are in the Occupy movement itself. It's a slogan that refers to the concentration of wealth in 1% of the population, and it's supposed to highlight the imbalance. See Wikipedia for more.

Well if %99 are having such a problem with it then again they can influence at least %66 of the states to Amend the constitution in their favor. Wouldn't time be better spent getting the word out to the %99 rather then attacking the %1 because %99 can certainly get a supermajority in the House and Electoral College.

People like you think that if there is a decent welfare state, then it will just create the so called Welfare queens as you think "Why bother improving when you can just get free money". What you don't realise is that people still want to get to the top of the pile and being welfare queen doesn't allow this to happen.

This presents another problem. Gettign to the top of the pile also means that you have less of a right to the money you earn in such a system through a progressive income tax.

I still have more taken in this scenario which frankly seems like a why bother sort of thing. I hasve less to pump in to the economy. Less to make potential im provements to my given product or service whether it be in improving the product itself or b eing able to provide employment.

Haven pretty much his the specifics.

A related issue is the protesters have never been particular well organized, they're not really targeting a change so much as bringing attention to an issue.

Now, there seems to be some extra attention in congress to wealth distribution, so things will change slightly. Mostly, this will probably mean more taxes on the rich, or rather, less tax breaks.

Political news ins't going to focus very much on policy and law changes at the moment since it's a Presidential election year.
