The ugly dolls that they, in 2013, bought the rights to outside of Scandinavian territories.
Lord knows why they're pinning their hopes on the fucking things; Troll dolls are CYCLICALLY popular, and come back when they want to, not when some corporation wants them to.
also: "DreamWorks Trolls" being Homestuck fanfic suggests that Katzenberg is up enough on popular (if not exactly mainstream but still) culture to make such a thing
on one hand a canon Homestuck animation would (if this were 1998) be a shot at Nepeta and Cadpig REALLY sharing a voice actor, but on the other if made by DWA they would get Mila Kunis or whatever brand-name female celebrity to voice her (or just leave her out entirely)
The Trolls are still narratively unproven, and if DWA is hoping for a LEGO Movie-esque hit with them, they won't get it because the Trolls don't hold the place in popular culture that LEGOs do. They might not even get an MLP:FIM-esque fluke, because people's image of the Troll isn't as a plaything nor do they carry cultural baggage. They are a cyclical fad. There's nothing wrong with liking to brush their hair, but that's not enough to carry a movie. And I don't know if the increasingly top-down DreamWorks can make a good movie centering on the Trolls.
There is ONE thing inherently on DWA's side: The Trolls are associated with the '90s (and came back in that decade because of '60s nostalgia), and '90s nostalgia is - and will be for a while - on an upswing.

Nah, brand-name female celebrity would clearly be brought on to voice either Aradia or Vriska, Nep would get some unknown with an irritating voice that finds a niche audience on tumblr.
See I thought the brand-names (e.g. Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o in another couple of years) would be saved for the more narratively important trolls
Why else would the studio's model be falling apart now? DWA's not like indie Pixar, they don't have a billionaire sugar daddy paying the bills or the halo effect from a stronger, longer-established brand like Disney...
someone is predicting yet another beatdown for DreamWorks
the unnecessary live-action Princess movie vs. the crappy-looking derivation of Lilo & Stitch
i can't really root for either, even if one of them is a product of a company teetering on the brink of collapse and the other is a product of a company that will be fine no matter what
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
as we approach the release of Home in the domestic market, I have to say that anyone who's into The True Meaning of Smekday who is any way dissatisfied with Home or the write-down if it does happen: You are dogs too!
It was alright, I don't think the Lilo & Stitch comparisons are apt
I read that the source material is much weightier than this thing is, and the movie touching on the colonialism themes did feel a bit odd because it preferred to be a disposable romp
It's a very good-looking movie, though the Rihanna songs were a bit oddly-placed
It was also weird seeing the names of Eric Ellenbogen and John Engelman in the credits
anytime they try marketing their characters as part of some greater DreamWorks brand it always looks so bizarre - the disparate visual and story styles don't help
Nickelodeon gets away with it because being a TV channel makes it easier to tie everything together, but DWA can't

Also,
>Under the lease agreement, DreamWorks will pay about $13 million a year over 20 years to SunTrust.
>DreamWorks Animation
>being around in 20 years
yeah, to put it nicely, that is a stretch
I don't think they should have closed either studio, but they might not have had a choice.
I liked trolls. I like to brush their hairs.

I'd watch a trolls movie.
And Kanaya would be Rosamund Pike.
In my mind Nepeta lisps all the time, so
Sugar Daddy can be a term for.... yeah, no.

It's interesting that Oh calls him "Pig cat" and not the other way around
