    Moot did the Internet a favour. If he hadn't started 4chan, someone else would have started something like it but even worse. The same goes for Lowtax and SA.

    And let's not pussyfoot around it: The Deep Web exists.

    If I'm not mistaken, people were complaining about the creeps, so the mods purged the forum, but they also purged a bunch of other people for various reasons. Moot formed 4chan around this time, and the people who got permabanned flocked there. Whether he got banned before or after this early influx is kind of obscure to me, but the two were connected. I know that at least one future 4chan mod was purged, however.
