What the hell is El Goonish Shive, though

I remember a few people liked it but I also caught whiff that it's also kinda weird and fetishy

El Goonish Shive is a comic about supernatural happenings and body transformation.

The latter part is where it gets the fetishy reputation and that's not entirely inaccurate, but a friend got me into it a while ago and I really like it, or at least the parts after Daniel Shive's art improved to the point where it didn't look like it was made in Paint.

my last avatar was from EGS.

It has a mixed reputation, I know AHR absolutely loathes it, for instance. But, I find the inclusion of a genderfluid character....relatable, and more generally I think it errs on the better side of escapism.

nowadays I think Dan has an interesting if not really unique style

i kind of mentally filed away goonish shive with "webcomics with semi-not-really-trans-themes i read as a teenager and kind of regret in retrospect", which has more than one entry somehow
