  I tend to enjoy strong aesthetics whether they're realistic or abstract. It's less about the level of abstraction for me and more about how it's being used.

  It seems to be the general opinion. For one thing, it seems like the public prefers the intricacy of the old-style Disney look/Disney Renaissance style to things that stem from, like, UPA.

  I'd say that Gravity Falls falls closer to stylized than simplified, but I agree with the rest of it.

  Commercial logos tend to lean towards the iconic and abstract; action films have recently been leaning towards "grit" with stylised interactions and realistic violence; book jacket design is all over the place; and so on.
