Ike Perlmutter stepped down from Disney subsidiary Marvel Entertainment nine years prior. The current head of Marvel, Pike Peterson, can't run the company worth shit. Sales of Marvel merchandise are through the floor. The Marvel Cinematic Universe had petered out a few years prior. Disney doesn't "get" Marvel, especially considering that its previous CEO, Bob Iger, who led the charge to acquire Marvel fifteen years prior, stepped down in 2018. Disney's new CEO, Rich Jackson, is a bumbling baffoon, and every day Iger looks on and says to himself "shit."
