  • TT: Through video streaming services he would frequently set it up so that buying a certain title would ship you the wrong film.
TT: And often titles for movies were available for sale that just straight up didn't exist. Or would be sold for dollar amounts that made no sense, like $2.890.1. And sometimes buying a download would actually deposit money into your account instead of deducting from it.
TT: It was all part of the "experience."

    This business plan is brilliant.

I love how Alpha!Dave managed to create a media empire out of the concept of things being very shitty.
  • Another update. Surreally enough, I went to look up Guy Fieri and it turned out his Wikipedia article already has a section about his role in Homestuck that's about half the size of the rest of the article. ._.

Also did I mention when I thought Roxy and Dirk were provided for due to precognition? Although I didn't know it was 400 years in advance at the time...probably can't claim I "called it" then. The important thing is Jake never not being amusing about guns.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I wonder what Guy's troll equivalent would be. Eridan, maybe?
  • Maybe it's because his last name looks a little like Feferi? Or is he somehow the guy responsible for Olive Garden?

Maybe I should just give up on trying to follow Hussie's thought process. And focus on...juggalo presidents, about which George Washington tried to warn us all.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Nope, Olive Garden existed long before he was a celebrity.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
I assumed it was an extension of the "baking is evil" thing because he's a chef IRL, right?  But his being a genocidal douchebag obviously recalls Eridan.

...is it bad that I actually felt kind of uneasy reading that part, thinking legally?  I mean, I know parody is fair use, but that's not really the same as depicting somebody as a fascist mass-murderer, is it?  I probably worry too much.

It did seem a little mean to me, but then again, I just sort of don't have a clue who that guys is.

If it it was Penn Jillette, I might have laughed my ass of instead...then again, Penn probably would find the whole thing hilarious...

Which is an interesting counter-point, when you think about it. Is someone suggesting you have the capability to help usher in the downfall of Western society a huge slam or compliment?

Speaking of which, what the hell happened to Eastern society?
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
If you're Insane Clown Posse it's probably a compliment. :p

I wonder if the rest of the world will be considered?  I hope Hussie isn't ignoring half the planet.  Although once you have the entire Western world subdued world conquest is probably not that much of a stretch.

It could be that she managed to get her impressive hair tendrils into enough stuff that she simply had an army large enough to crush the rest of the world resistance.

I know Guy Fieri! He hosts several shows on the Food Network and Minute To Win It.

Can't say I was worried about it (more like "amusedly contemplating [shut up amusedly is totally a word]), but I was thinking the same thing.

Well I hope Guy Fieri doesn't sue. But if Clevinger can get away with making Thomas Edison a murderous, vindictive technomancer who raised Rasputin from the dead and set him on his most hated enemy, I think Hussie can get away with making the most ridiculous-looking man on the Food Network the third Antichrist.

Seriously, that guy couldn't bring to ruin milk.

He won't sue. Besides, what case would he have? "Baaaaw, a guy made fun of me!"

Yeah, that would be a pretty shitty lawsuit.

Still seemed kind of harsh, though.

    UPDATE

Dang yo, at least Dave went out like a boss, albeit, a boss riding a shitty floating skateboard
  • Until this moment I did not realize there was a way to insurrect ironically.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I think that this is the first time we've ever seen a human die in this comic.
  • Those upd8s were really odd for me to read since I watch Food Network a lot and Guy's 8ig 8ite is one of my favor8 cooking shows. ::::o
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I don't pay much attention to Guy's shows, since I don't really like him that much, but...yeah, I'd be worried. I know, I know, this isn't the first time someone's trolled a celebirty (Todd in the Shadows has an entire Tumblr dedicated to making fun of Chris Brown and has even gotten into Twitter fights with him), but this just seems like it's inviting a nasty letter from Food Network legal. :P

There's a reason I said real celebrities. He's like, a C-list actor if I'm using that term correctly. Hussie is probably more famous than him.

Not that I have anything against the guy, mind. I've seen his blog, and he seems pretty cool. Can't hate the VA for Prince Zuko, either.

Well, it goes from A to D-lists. It's not really strictly defined. A-list celebs are basically the biggest names, and C-list ones are pretty obscure. B-list is in-between that, and D-list is basically nobodies who most people who know about them know them for guest appearances.

To be honest, I had to check Wikipedia for this before saying he was a C-list actor. I was going to use the term in the first place, but wasn't sure it was accurate.

It's mostly subjective, but I think how you listed it is pretty accurate.

I forgot to mention "a human who isn't a hero, or a vague abstraction."

Yeah, I actually kind of like seeing Guy on the Food Network as well, though I do still think it's a little funny. Watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives is going to be so weird now...

Also, Alton Brown is totally part of the resistance, I'm calling it now.

I'm starting to think Hussie just plain doesn't like Guy Fieri.

The Olive Garden's food isn't all that bad for a chain restaurant, but the service is typically really, really bad. At least around here, anyway.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Also, wait a damn minute. He's referencing old CBS specials, isn't he? Alpha Dave riding UNREAL AIR into the sky sounds like the ending of The Lorax, and Alpha Rose taking the High Chaplain over the falls reminds me of Yukon Cornelius doing the same with the Bumble.

    ^^^ That's a pretty popular theory actually.

    San Diego Comic Con - July 12th - 15th
However at SDCC, cosplay is not only welcome, it is encouraged. Feel free to completely swamp this thing with Homestuck characters. Let's outnumber all the storm troopers, animes and Spider Men combined. We will show up on the news under the headline, "COMIC CON RUINED FOREVER: HOMESTUCK OFFICIALLY REPLACES STAR WARS." I give you my blessing to make this happen, and reserve the right to renounce all personal responsibility.

Ha ha, the scary thing is that this isn't so far-fetched.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Indeed. The thought of ComiCon being overrun with "LEMME TELL YA ABOUT HOMESTUCK" makes me giggle uncontrollably. XD

I didn't see any Homestuck when I went in '09 or '10, but both times were only for a day. I wanted to go this year as Equius but those plans appear to have fallen through.
