  earnest without being grating (YMMV on this of course), catchy hooks, some fun song structures and timbres

  they have a very good way of constructing their songs, lots of interesting sounds used in a way cohesive enough that i find impressive, and structured very well, and they have a fucking great ear for melody. that song, for instance, is all about when the melody comes in. it's very skilfully constructed to smack you round the face with that brilliant lead synth line
  
  also i quite like their sci-fi-thriller-film-meets-dancefloor-banger sort of aesthetic
