It may also be an overcorrection to the sorts of things that happened in the 1970s and 1980s, where anime was more likely to be loosely adapted or edited together with two or three other shows in order to make something entirely different. It wasn't until people started demanding "no cuts" that we even started seeing faithful dubs, much less anime in the original Japanese.

that's what i think is going on largely
a lot of people cite the horrible dubs of the 90s where names were changed and stuff got cut/edited
honestly though i'm not sure how much i object to cutting/editing per se
the result could be a load of shit, but that's dependent on what the result itself is, rather than the act of cutting/editing
i actually kinda like it when names are skillfully adapted
Also, I just watched MarzGurl's review of The Little Prince, and surprise! Like a lot of 1980s English dubs, it's a Macekre. :P The company that made the English adaptation, Jambre, might be related to WEP somehow (they seem to share a lot of staff) but I can't prove it

It seems like Sailor Moon couldn't catch a break on this for years (it's certainly the anime I saw the most complaints about), and I don't remember if it was DiC or Toei being difficult about it.
the originalist argument when it comes to "subs vs. dubs" is "it was originally in that language, so that's the right language to appreciate it in"
this argument is bullshit
Not entirely.
Like, ok, there isn't really a right/wrong way to appreciate a TV show, but having a preference for watching things in the language they were originally scripted and dubbed in isn't arbitrary.
the second sentence of the Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero OP is filled with so much emotion
that part of the music that goes with the tune "do...do-ti, la so re-mi," etc. i can't find the lyrics because presumably proper uploads of the song have gotten takedown'd :(
meanwhile the singing in this video is hard to tolerate but the English lyrics are quite nice; they really bring out the emotion
so earlier today i happened to have picked up this skills worksheet pdf from the careers office at my school
just now someone wanted to show me a TTRPG called "strike"
i opened up the pdf for the former thinking it was the latter and was wondering whether this was a TTRPG based on collective bargaining and labor rights

HEY LOOK IT"S HARDCORE NOW AND NOT THIS GOODY TWO_SHOES THING FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE AND NOT FOR BABIES ANYMORE SO OBVIOUSLY IT"S MORE MATURE AND EDGY AND DARK AND SUCH SO IT"S OBVIOUSLY BETTER URRRRRGGGGHHHHHH *constipated face*
things that clearly make something more mature: * blood and gore * extreme violence * xtreme kool letterz * tits and ass * explicit sex * zombies * dim lighting * dead people * offensive language * insulting language * constipated faces * heavy metal
clearly the most mature thing would be naked female human zombies having sex (uncensored) while biting other zombies' heads off, as those other zombies are screaming "FUCK YOUR MOTHER" in pained constipated faces, all in a darkened room, in a painting titled "BADAZZIEST KORE EVARRRRRR", while heavy metal is playing in the background

some people watch anime because it's "different", "foreign", or "japanese"
i don't
i watch it the same way i'd watch, say, law and order
in terms of severity of changes, what about Macross?

now the tissue has fallen on the ground
why don't you just declare war on them
that'll show them
that'll be an even more amusingly petty thing than the soccer war
"the multiplayer game server war"
a particle is a minute quantity of matter
relative to the larger world, i am minute

music, emotions, and figures should be just as easily postable
i had no one to complain to
before you complain you should do the same
"I am America, and so can you!"
"I am playing with a shitty resolution, and so can you!"
