So hey, I know there aren't a ton of other hip-hop fans on the forum, but a dude on reddit named Anon2791 edited together a bunch of Jay Electronica tracks into a fan-made mixtape/album called Bright Spots 2.0
It's really reallygood, and exceptionally sequenced. I highly recommend it, my opinion of Jay Elec went from "dude can rhyme but is lazy" to "Jay Electronica might be one of the best rappers currently alive" in the span of about an hour. It's really impressive and I cannot recommend it enough.
the tracklist:
1. Prelude (Foreword From Just Blaze & Erykah Badu)
Joe Meek & The Blue Men's I Hear A New World comes off as sounding like an elaborate worktape for the singles he produced, but he's got such a cool sound going that it doesn't matter.
i listened to jenny death and it engaged me more than any other death grips album i've tried
still hasnt made me into a death grips fan however
i've said this a bunch but i think the big issue w/ death grips is that their fans sell them as this ultra cerebral experimental outfit when it's really all jump up and down and be goofy music with a screaming man with cool tattoos and some polyrhythms and shit so you go into it expecting the wrong thing
anyways you should listen to Govt Plates a few times, it's defs their best album imho and i'd say it's well worth trying to get into even if you dont like it right away, which is something i dont go so far as to say with things usually
Fun fact: out of all of the incredibly loud and abrasive music that i have listened to Sissy Spacek's self titled stands out as the most disorientingly, mind obliteratingly unpleasant thing i've ever heard
like, it fuses noise and grindcore together via musique concrete techniques in exactly the right manner to leave the listener flat-footed and then it just bludgeons you over the head
it's like if Merzbow had a child with a rabid wolverine
apparently the new Sigh album "Features guest perfrmances from Matthew Heafy (Trivium), Fred Leclercq (Dragonforce), Niklas Kvarforth (Shining Sweden), Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ), and Metatron (The Meads of Asphodel)."
I listened to Marquee Moon on headphones during a flight. The title track played during takeoff, and that guitar solo hit its absolute crescendo just as we rose above the clouds and saw the blue sky for the first time that day. I couldn't have timed it better if I were trying.
my best perfect timing music story: i was watching this song live on a hillside in the lake district and at roughly the bit that kicks in at 2:42 a fucking meteor broke up in the sky a few hundred metres above us, it was absolutely mad
i picked up Sd Laika's That's Harikiri at the record store!
its a good album but when i heard it iwas faintly disappointed because i listened to it on the rec of a mate who absolutely rides sd laikas dick so i was expecting it to be amazing
This Novelist song I've never heard before but it seems fine.
A problem with me and Grime is that it's very slang-dense and I'm not British so I'm not familiar with any of it, which can make it hard for me to understand what they're saying.
Also Grime beats often give me a headache, that's not a joke. Something about the bass frequencies they use maybe.
