    mindless cynicism is easy to do and is more realistic than mindless optimism

    people want realism, and the people supplying entertainment want it to be easy to make/consume

    Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    It's not really "more realistic". It's just what certain people think is realistic.

    And to be fair, nobody's view of what the world is is strictly "realistic" either. Like, everybody's doing things and not doing things, and they can say what they will of the world but it's only true for them, it might not be true for me. Which is not to say that they're wrong, just that their views are different from ours and is not the whole picture. And we'll never see the whole picture, because it's far too large.
