I thought this might be interesting...

Myself, on my mother's side, I am German and Scottish, and on my father's side, I am Ethiopian. Don't know what particular ethnic group, though, and can't ask, because I am estranged from his side of the family.

My mother also may have Jewish ancestors...

^^ Probably at least a few Jewish ancestors on your dad's side too, AU, depending on what group his family's from.

My dad's family are European Jewish, mostly from Germany and Poland, with Dutch and Russian ancestors thrown in; my mom's family is a mix of most of the ethnic groups of the British Isles (primarily from Wales and the North), plus French and Low German.

my dad's side is british. 100% british. you go back as far as you can and theyre all just farming away in this tiny village in cheshire. also a tiny bit of scottish, but t is only tiny.

my mum's side is the interesting one. she is the american one so there is ancestry from, as far as i can tell, alll the boring northern european countries (germany, netherlands, england) but because of the way america is probably a bit of just about everything. most interesting is you can trace her side back to the man who shot and killed King William II with an arrow. regicide in my family hell yea

Mother's DNA test came back, and it turns out in addition to the Scottish and German there is also Scandinavian (prompting her to spend hours going on about how we're "Vikings"), and small amounts of Italian, Irish, and Greek. No Jewish though.

The serious answer is that for the most part, I come from the remnants of a once-notable Dutch family. Technically, if you wanted to get on your high horse, we are a cadet family.

There's some other stuff mixed in there (mostly German and Belgian), but nothing I really celebrate, and it seriously is like 95% Dutch.

Family is originally from Marwar ('the region of death'), Rajasthan. We're from the Bansal gotra, from the Agrawal clan (or tribe, or something), from the Baniya caste (literally "bourgeoisie": we were usurers). They settled in Bihar about a century ago. That's my ethnic origin.
