Newest Version of When They Fall. Wasn't able to get it to the goal (mostly because I'm stuck on some dialogue rather than technical issues) but did manage to get it to where I intended it to be last Friday morning, so, progress.
Significant changes have been made since the last demo. Draws a lot less from OFF than it used to, and a bit more from Undertale and OneShot.
The world's been fleshed out a bit, I'll be getting some portrait art done sooner than later, and I'm finally satisfied with how the main character talks. I'd have a demo out by now, but, well, I haven't figured out how to make the gameplay actually fun. Which is sort of the problem I have with Corpse Theater too, but Corpse Theater's supposed to be bleak so the SO:TL reasoning works for it.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
What format are the files? If it's just, like, plain text, you could do a find-and-replace in any text editor...
Each interaction in RPG Maker that isn't covered by basic movement and each object that isn't part of the set dressing is an 'event'. NPC, wandering monsters, all dialogue, chests, doors, and a bunch of other stuff is covered by that. Each event is a separate object, and can only be edited by opening the event using the event editor and changing around the dialogue (along with any animations you may want to do, health regeneration, monster spawning, et al). I don't know how RPG Maker saves events, but I think they're saved as a part of the data for that particular map, and I'm pretty sure the only ways you're allowed to edit that data is with RPG Maker itself.
The scripts (as in code for game mechanics stuff) are text files and have find-in-all-files, but the events (the thing you do all the dialogue, npcs, treasure chests, etc. with) are stored as binary files iirc and there's no find/replace in the editor.
EDIT: Oh Yarrun already replied, and better than me.
Two things about Metamorphosis, which will probably be my next project after I finish/get tired of Corpse Theatre:
I'm probably making it in Ren'py, a visual novel engine that should be more than flexible enough to suit my needs.
Adam Sheridan, the client/patient for the demo, will not have pseudo-Thing powers but instead have powers based on metal absorption and manipulation. I have my reasons
I'm actually thinking that, in 5 years when I remaster this, I'm gonna start the game with the first few bits of the ending conversation before going to the actual beginning. It's apparently a really strong scene??
