The Town of Glennton

"founded 7 Jan. 2013"

"The town of Glennton was founded on this day because a person decided that he would like to make a statement about policy choices by choosing to enact a sin tax on a tobacco-scented candle rather than ban it outright, and he needed a town to do it in."

The town was actually founded on 7 Jan. 2014, but the person carving the sign forgot to year++ in his mental calendar.

Comments

  • The town contains the last known holdout Borders bookstore.  It has insisted on using the Borders name even as the national chain went into bankruptcy.  A legal dispute with Barnes & Noble Booksellers is currently ongoing.
  • The population of Glennton is a few hundred residents.

Situated on the northeast inside of a bend of a river, it features a grid of avenues and streets that run north/south and east/west respectively.  The streets are named (from the river northward) Sain, Kent, Florina, Wil, Dorcas, Serra, Erk, Rath, and Matthew.  The avenues are named (from the river eastward) Seth, Franz, Gilliam, Vanessa, Moulder, Ross, Garcia, Neimi, and Colm.  Lyn Boulevard and Eirika Boulevard form a pair of X-shaped diagonals through town.
  • The town's center -- a two-block-by-two-block square bounded by Wil Street, Serra Street, Vanessa Avenue, and Ross Avenue -- contains open, grassy spaces, along with what would be an eight-way intersection in the form of a large traffic circle.

The town's major shops surround this area, but the Glennton Green (as it is called) does not have permanent buildings on it.

The exact location of Glennton is uncertain.  At some point, someone who was supposed to be in charge of Glennton's GIS division scrawled down "(14236, -625783) UTM 18E", but was most likely drunk at the time.

It was later revealed that Glennton is geographically within Centralia, and lies about 12 to 14 miles down the road from Salem.
