This is why the thesaurus option on a word processor is your friend. There are a few fan-fictions I bailed out of early because the vocabulary wasn't diverse enough.

This seems to be over the course of about 180 pages, so there is some spread, but "hit" and "strike" seem like perfectly valid synonyms in at least two of those places.
