Railroads had their own water towers?
I'd never thought about it before, but I suppose that makes sense.
Yeah, they did back in the age of steam. Steam locomotives had to be filled up every so often (and, of course, still do on the few applications that still use them, mostly excursion trains).
I've actually ridden on a steam train several times, if you count the narrow-gauge ralroad at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, anyway. They have 3 steamers that run on propane.

It was originally built as a temporary four-lane connector from I-70 to US 40 before I-70 was built west into Columbus. When I-70 was finished, the connector road was turned into a two-lane road and became modern-day OH 158.

And another one! This one's old, too; the legs are I-beams, and it's reinforced with more I-beams and gusset plates (like a trestle) rather than the cables later water towers use.

Heavens, I found another pumpkin. There must have been a company in NC building them, most likely from a PDM design (if it wasn't PDM themselves, anyway).

Cool! I notice they have the yield signs as required by the 2009 MUTCD...I suppose the days of just crossbucks are over.

Also, for some reason it shows up all distorted-looking on the Android app:

Yay Central Ohio!
As you work your way through Columbus you'll notice a bit of weirdness with the cardinal directions...for some reason the City of Columbus posts US 62 as "north" and "south" while ODOT always refers to it as "east" and "west"...
Going through southwest West Virginia is almost as bad as going through the Plains states...there's plenty of little towns, but it seems like a lot of them are boarded up and left for dead. If they have any commercial activity at all, it's a dollar store or a gas station.

The crossing itself isn't particularly interesting, but here it is
