I wish my church sang older ones, myself. Our choirmaster is really, really Baptist (honestly I'm not even certain she's Catholic) and we get some pretty schlocky "modern" ones.

in my church it seems to depend who chooses the hymns, but they lean towards older ones

which is just as well really because when we get newer ones they're often pretty bad

most Catholic churches in my experience have a set rotation of hymns.

Sometimes one will be retired and a new one brought in though.

And I should point out that I don't actually know that for a fact, it's just a conclusion I've come to based on how certain ones come up a lot, and then some are just dropped one day and never heard from again. Might have to do with us getting new editions of the hymnal.
