who would win?

Comments

  • The Westboro Church of Scientology.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Hmm.

On the one hand, the WBC are one of the most visible hate-groups in the country despite having a minimal number of adherents and next to no-one who will defend them, including the frigging KKK.

On the other, the Church of Scientology has done things that are actually scary.

    I don't think this is a contest...
  • Smee, Maiman, Doktar, Pavelier, Button-Lee, Juan Ovyu
This is gonna be a match to remember!

    this

tho i think the WBC's visibility could actually work in their defence

while few would stand up for them, giving them a real reason to feel persecuted might make them more dangerous and maybe even win them the sympathies of fellow fanatics
  • On the Scide of Scientology, they have a ideology that attracts new members, while WBC, judging from their testimonials, has yet to even expand as much as their opponent.

Out of pure parity and numbers, the Scitols I believe have the upper hand. I haven't seen the WBC use their legal group as efficiently and threateningly as the Scitols have.

WBC is one guy and his harem and kids who yell impotently at people.

Scientology makes absurd amounts of money off rich actors, aggressively impoverishes and possibly murders dissidents, and is singlehandedly responsible for the largest infiltration of the United States government in history.

I'm thinking this match is a little one-sided.

There's definitely a pretty large resource gap between the two sides.
  • ...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through
    (2015 self)

    I..

    Just.

    Wow.

I never knew that about Scientology.

So yeah, if quoted posts are true, Scientology would win.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White

They planted agents in order to sabotage federal tax and investigation records during the 70's.  Over 5,000 agents were discovered.  People were actually walking around government buildings stealing keys, spoofing identification.  It was seriously real life James Bond shit.

Also of note are their numerous conspiracies to frame critics of bomb threats and hit-and-run charges, driving members to suicide, and rather strong (though unproven) suspicions of having covertly killed dissidents.

Oh, and they have Soviet style gulags.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Yep. Even if most low-ranking Scientologists are probably harmless, the upper echelons of the church, particularly Sea Org (which is basically a paramilitary order), are really shady.

Their idea of public relations seems to be less about projecting a positive image than denying anything that looks bad and silencing anyone that says otherwise by force. If it is not a ploy to hide wrongdoing (whether of righteous intent or not), then it is incredibly circular reasoning.

    i'm not defending them

i'm saying they have to be covert

if any of this could be proven and traced to higher members of the Church they'd be screwed

whereas WBC do at least have the protection of being very much in the public eye and, of the two, the less likely to do something evil, meaning that if they were perceived to be being victimized, i think they would win support from other fundamentalist groups.

^^ Ah, OK. I got confused because I am a doofus.

Operation Snow White was traced back to them.  The FBI raided several of their buildings for evidence, and tons of top-ranking people including Hubbard's wife got convicted.  Hubbard himself had to go into hiding for the rest of his life.

Really, it's kind of a shock Scientology still exists.
  • The Church of Scientology is an incredibly dangerous organization that is probably a bigger threat to the United States than the various Islamic extremist groups we go after. I'm sort of disgusted that almost all criticism of it focuses on the "hurr durr u worshp hte aleins" aspect.
