so I made a new folder to keep the important stuff in in Cockatrice, the problem here is that for whatever reason, that folder is not visible within Cockatrice itself, so I can't select it.
OK so how do I actually download that XML file you posted, because clicking on it 1) freezes Firefox for a solid ten minutes and 2) just opens it. And I can't right click to download it, I can only save the link to it.
I downloaded and replaced the XML file but nothing seems to have changed at all. Still don't have any Magic 2015 cards or any Theros cards, and the card art for everything is still missing.
Ok. Let's go through this step by step (I'm assuming you already downloaded the scraper here):
1) Run the Oracle without changing any settings except the default save folder. Change that to some folder in your Cockatrice folder. 2) Point Cockatrice's "Path to Card Directory" at that folder. 3) Run the scraper until it tells you it's done. 4) Make a folder called pics, and point Cockatrice at that too. Make a folder in it called downloadedPics. 5) Download the M15.zip from here. 6) Extract it into your downloadedPics folder.
^ That's... not the Oracle you should be using. If you downloaded the latest release, it should look like this:
I have no idea what I'm doing and I can't understand the instructions I'm being given. Nevermind, I am clearly not meant to enjoy such decadent luxuries as card games.
I can't even actually open the program now, it goes straight to the settings panel and gives me that error^ whenever I try to exit, I've apparently busted it too much. This is after a un- and re-install.
OK now I can open the program again but the only thing I seem to have accomplished through all this is ending up back where I started. ie, without any of the newer cards, and with none of my cards having any art.
also, the text box below the picture of the card--the one that displays the rulestext in plaintext--is empty, is that just a consequence of how Cockatrice is maintained now, or have I done something wrong
You mean the images, or the card itself? And Oracle covers everything up to Nyx. And yes, unless there's a missing image, you just have to read the card.
Comments
At least, Windows tells me that the "Local" folder is empty, and searching for Cockatrice brings up no results.
I really love how Windows 8 locks you out of half your own computer's functions.
Anyway, try downloading this, make a folder in your Cockatrice folder called cards, drop it in there, and point the path at it.
sigh.
EDIT: You know what, download this instead.
apparently I was supposed to use this at some point, but it's not working properly either.

why doesn't it ask where I want these directories to be
I am going to kill everyone involved in the creation of this operating system.
I hate everything
you know what I fucking give up

what is the "latest release" of Cockatrice? I thought development stopped last year.
I didn't even know that was a link, you didn't say it was.
I'm sorry, I'm not very smart.
I have pictures now, and I seem to have....most M15 cards. But some are still missing. Boneweaver Giant for example.
Is this an issue with the XML file I downloaded or did I fuck up somewhere
also did the M15 download include all the Theros stuff or do I have to get that separately somewhere else?
example of the thing with the textbox being empty
also Polluted Delta's art is gone, not sure what to make of that.
and here I thought I was out of the woods.
c'mon, I'm awful.
