  It's essentially Barbie: Fairytopia in reverse. Instead of being cloying and vomit-inducingly cute to the point that there is no drama because you know that everything ends up perfect; it's garish and vomit-inducingly nasty to the point that there is no drama because you know that the perfect storm is gonna happen to the good guys.
  
  But people love grimdark and dark=quality, apparently.
  
  The King's Shadow has the middle ground between joy and despair, where good and bad happen, but not necessarily in equal amounts. Good guys don't always win, but they don't always lose, either; and loss can make you grow.

  I probably saw like half a dozen Game of Thrones episodes and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it is unbelievably sex-obsessed, and also spends perversely more time on scenes of cruelty and violence than on having a plot or something actually stimulating. But a lot of people like it so whatever.
