  Might have helped that I watched this before Pitch Black, so I wasn't particularly disappointed when I watched a Space-Opera and not sci-fi horror.

  According to many critics, this made the move hard to follow without commentary, but I never though the movie really lacked proper explanation for what was going on. I just sort of accepted the Riddick universe was a bit more esoteric than the average Sci-fi universe.
