"It is a matter of grave importance that Fairy tales should be respected.... Whosoever alters them to suit his own opinions, whatever they are, is guilty, to our thinking, of an act of presumption, and appropriates to himself what does not belong to him." -- Charles Dickens
Strawman aside, many of these guys are biologists and neuroscientists at top-tier universities. Plus Stephen Hawking has joined the "I don't know philosophy because it's worthless" chorus. So the interesting question is, when did scientists become such ignoramuses outside their field? Einstein, Heiseberg, etc. understood philosophy enough to say intelligent things, while others like Bohr and Oppenheimer were not particularly insightful but at least well-read (Oppenheimer knew Sanskrit, and Bohr had at least read enough Hindu philosophy in translation to relate it to QM).
The movie actually cuts out the institution (RAND, from Research ANd Development, unrelated to Ayn or Paul) where John Nash cooked up most of his most important ideas.

The comic up there reminds me of Stardust and that amuses me to no end.

...well, okay, it was not quite giant, but it was a robotic dude named Hume.
...okay, it probably wasn't meant to represent the philosopher named Hume, but rather just be a character named Hume in the world of Eternal Daughter.
