Real Super Mario 2 was too hard for Americans!
At least that's how I understood it when I got Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES as a little kid.
I've beaten SMB1 and Doki Doki Mario. Both very early events in my gaming career.
Never touched the Lost Levels, but they gave SSB the Poison Mushroom, so I guess I'm okay with their existence. SML was attempted, but never won. SMB3 was easy enough, but kind of boring. SMW was mindblowing.

I played SMW first, then SMB3 (SNES). I liked 3 slightly more because it had airships as well as fortresses, the Frog and Hammer Bros suits, item shops, etc.
Yoshi and the world map where you could open branching paths by finding multiple exits to a level made it very close, though.
dat feel when you're the only person pointing out a really obvious observation that allows one to completely avoid the argument but no one else seems to have any interest in entertaining it

I got real tired of airships, that's what I'm saying.
For those of us who played SMB3 first, though, it seemed pretty darn great.

But even if you are, "Super Mario 2" was never a real mario game anyway; there's never been one by that name.
