It probably had an influence on Phil's work though, at least indirectly, since a lot of British engineers and musicians were influence by the Soul & R&B records that were coming in Britain at the time. The were particularly interested in the drum sounds and getting a fat, rich bass sound like they achieved in those records, at least that what I've gathered from what I've read.
