Indeed, they are not the size of the rolling boulders she has run away from in the past. I personally still think she's pretty though, but in a more realistic way.

What warrants a reboot, exactly? Isn't the premise of each game basically just Indiana Jones with more boobs? What possibly happened in canon that could make it difficult to find more old stuff in a cave somewhere and other people who want it and are willing to shoot you for it?

All I know about the recent Lara Croft game is that it features her being sexually abused some how (the developers specifically intended to evoke protectiveness from the male audience with that schtick) and that it's always 10% off on Steam.

Both of those things kind of worries me. I mean, I like deals, but a nigh constant bargain on an item means that the item isn't selling, and there's probably a reason why the item isn't selling.

Permanent 10% off is a psychological thing, I think: it makes you think you're getting an amazing deal, even though single-player video games are dominated by fixed costs so there is no real supply-side "optimal price".

It's why there's a permanent half-off sale for some of the sushi at the place near my apartment.

Yeah, the first time they rebooted the series was because it had been a fairly long gap between releases, a new developer, and damn near everyone hated the series' last title, Angel Of Darkness, because it confusingly brought the previously dead Lara back to life without warning, amongst other problems.

This time, I think they just felt a need to modernise. Which is understandable-- the Lara Croft of the 1990s and 2000s isn't quite as relevant to today's gamers' interests even if she did have a venerable brand under her belt. This entry in particular is the first real overhaul given to Lara-- as a result, it gravitates to the more deliberately realistic and disturbing tone seen in, well, newer games, though it's really up to you to decide whether or not that's going to be a good thing for the franchise overall.
