Honestly, actual middle-school-aged-me (though i never actually went to middle school) was closer to how i was in the Twelve Year Old Kidz Klub thread but i figured i'd try something different here.

Middle School Avenue was kind of a hateful child
A lot of that hate was directed at herself, though
i was miserable, though. i wanted friends but i drove people away by being oversensitive to everything. my idea of standing up for myself was to nitpick other people, which just made me insufferable. After a while i got used to being picked on and took to isolating myself in the library.
My closest friend at that time was a crazed nerdy girl in the grade above me that lived down my street and read Piers Anthony and watched anime and generally had more geek cred than I even have now. She introduced me to Mel Brooks, The Princess Bride and The Sandman, although I didn't actually read that last one until much later. She currently apprentices with a corset maker and got a Bachelor's degree in Editing or some such thing. We talk now and then, but not enough.
Another friend of mine from that time also lives near by—closer, actually. She went to a different school for complicated reasons, so I didn't see her as much. She is also awesome, but again, we do not hang out enough.
Note that I made friends with these girls long before I entered middle school. My closest actual middle school friends were the only two people I knew that were as awkward as I am. One drifted away, but we're still cool; the other is currently my best friend, but we didn't get close at all until high school.
