I don't play the game, but League of Legends has an excellent health bar.
Each segment of the health bar represents 100 hp, and in this way it manages to show both percentage of health lost and an estimate of the numerical value of their health while looking stylish and avoiding any pesky numbers.

It's called a student loan, for those who don't mind going into crippling debt for the vague promise of maybe getting the chance to maybe get a decent career someday.
Actually, it's called a stipend. Except I think the laptop was actually paid for by my parents as a delayed graduation gift.
Either way, I'm a grad student; I'll have to teach future biologists what a derivative is, so I get paid an okay amount and the vague promise of maybe getting the chance of getting to breathe next to tenure one day.

I figured, but I felt like using Lazuli's post as a soapbox for my own little political ranting.

Sorry. >_<
That'll be a $12 soapboxing fee, ma'm.

Man, the next Nexus 7 is probably going to be 1080p* and that fits in people's pockets.
This laptop is something like sixteen inches diagonal, I think. It's big enough that I rarely leave with it on a day-to-day basis, but small enough I can take it to, e.g., Buttercup's house.
*Actually, I've heard 1920x1200, which is 1080p** plus a little bit of extra room for controls and such.
**Also, "1080p" for 1920x1080 is a bit of an abuse of notation, but everybody uses it, so it doesn't really matter.

Oh they just stuff more pixels into a given screen size. I figured a 1080p laptop widescreen would be like 17 inches in diameter diagonal, and the computer would be like ten pounds or heavier.

...how do you have the "diameter" of a rectangle?
I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking your phrasing but I'm actually not sure which dimension you're referring to. The width? A diagonal measurement?
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
I just finished with a 1.5 hour intensive lecture on circles and their relationships to triangles and other shapes in advanced geometry today and now this
In terms of screen sizes it's usually the diagonal measurement, by tradition. And actually I was wrong, my screen size is 17.3 inches, apparently, and the laptop itself is seven pounds.
But there's nothing that says a 1080p screen has to be a certain screen size.

I knew screen sizes are usually reported by the diagonal--though I always found this stupid--but "diameter" threw me off. Maybe I'm just having a derpy moment.
My laptop has a 15.6" screen. I don't think I'd want one any larger than that, really, though a bit more resolution would certainly be welcome.

Man, I remember when 32 MB was considered an impressive amount...
Kex, if it makes you feel better, I'd talk about hit points, but the games I play tend to not actually, y'know, use them. If it's not a one-hit-kill like Rayman Origins, it's a educated estimate of how much red/blood/black and white's on the screen, like Mirror's Edge.
Dead Space's system is pretty cool though, since you can directly see how beat up Isaac is just by looking at his gear. I'm probably never gonna play the games cuz I'm a pussy, but still.

My latest Laptop (supposedly ultrabook, but it's rather large) was over $1000,
But it is as thin as can be with something that plays blu-rays (also burns DVDs, CDs), has 1080p, blue-tooth, 8GB ram, a solid state hard drive, and touch screen.
It's almost the same specs as my gamming Laptop, but that has a graphics card and slightly faster processor (with less cores).

also the fan does this thing where it'll run (loudly) at maximum speed for like a minute straight for no apparent reason after i log in...no matter which operating system i'm using
I actually got rid of one of my older laptops (a castoff from work, as with some of the others) because it would freeze solid after being left on for a few minutes, no matter what the OS. It was an older ThinkPad with a floppy drive built in (totally rad), but between it constantly freezing and the fact that its screen was only 800x600 (in a world where most programs look at you like you have two heads if you have anything less than 1024x768), out it went.

No, I'm nowhere near it right now. No, I don't know what causes it. No, it doesn't do it all the time.
...wait, Centie, you dual-boot?
