ITT: in which Kex airs out his gripes with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter
Actually, not really. I honestly don't really dislike Beyonce, I just don't particularly care for her music. I just thought a thread with this title would be funny.
Understand that when I say I don't like something, I usually don't think it's bad, just that it's not for me. Beyonce is a capable musician, but not the kind I like.
Lady Gaga was supposed to be on Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" (back when it was still called "Partynauseous"), but was cut from the final version and was replaced by a backup vocalist.
I liked some of Gaga's hits, but have no particular feelings on her either way.
And that's because she wastes her prodigious talents on making stupid stuff like 'Tik Tok'
why does it bother you that she makes the music she wants to make?
I guess it's because I don't think she really wants to write the music that she writes.
Hmm. At some point, I got this idea that Kesha's too smart for the music that she writes, that she makes what she makes because she knows what sells. But I can't really speak with confidence on that, as I generally stay as far away from her music as possible.
I need to stop having opinions on things I don't know about.
I need to stop having opinions on things I don't know about.
If anyone on this site did that, then nobody would have the right to talk about anything.
<hypocrisy> I believe that nobody shouldn't be required to have a master's degree in the field they are discussing, and that even if they are wrong, they should feel free to discuss it. People want to talk about stuff, and that doesn't mean they have to know every detail about it either.</hypocrisy>
I need to stop having opinions on things I don't know about.
There's actually nothing wrong with doing this, especially when it comes to something as trashy as pop music.
I don't even know who this Kesha person is but I'm going to judge the value of her music by the first image that I see of her. And there's nothing wrong with this because:
1. I already know she's just another flash in the pan pop singer, and given the track record on them, it is a very, very safe bet that I am missing nothing of actual cultural value whatsoever.
2. She has a "$" in her name, further devaluing any reason to ever give her work an honest listen.
Well, let's see then.
Mmmm-hmm. Yep, nothing to concern myself over here. Anyone for some Patsy Cline?
Patsy Cline's plane went the way of Buddy Holly's at the height of her career.
Oh, and she's still very popular and famous. The fact that her singing range is twice that of any of these trash pop artists nowadays has a lot to do with that
She was your standard smart kid at high school. She played trumpet in marching band. Her SAT score was 1500 before they added the writing section. She got a higher score in Math than I did.
And yet all her songs have terrible lyrics and boring chord progressions.
I know she's doing it on purpose, most likely for lulz and fortune, and that's why she bugs me.
Isn't Kesha just Taylor Swift after discovering drugs?
No I would say no, but I forget high schoolers like to get drunk/crunk, tell the DJ to turn it up, and beg for drugs and oral sex.
Even if she's a flash-in-the-pan nobody-nowhere short-lived poptrash star, she's made more money in that time than I have for 6 years, so I'm insanely jealous and will hold a petty grudge against her indefinitely by trash-talking her every time she's mentioned in a conversation.
She doesn't sound very much like Taylor Swift. Although lately Taylor Swift has been sounding surprisingly like Ke$ha i guess.
Ke$ha's songs are enjoyable, but i question how anyone intelligent can possibly have been involved in the production of 'Tik Tok' and not noticed how moronic the lyrics are, unless the entire thing is a joke at the expense of her listeners or something.
The song is about partying and having stupid fun. Stupid being in a good, fun way and not a "puke your anti-depressants into the sink and wake up next to a convicted rapist" kind of stupid.
Plus if you aren't part of the "crazy house party" group it would be stupid and unfun, just like anyone not in the nerdosphere watching a D&D game would think it's stupid and unfun.
I am at a ...en passe? I don't know what you call this part of the discussion. Where you figure out the other person makes sense, and you agree with them and undo the thingy you said before and accept their thingy.

Really, I don't have much of a problem with female pop artists at this time.
Lady Gaga was a bother at some point, but she dove under the mainstream of pop culture and I don't care to dredge her up for my personal flagellation.
i get so angry sometimes i just punch plankton --Klinotaxis

While Beyonce is of higher level, Lady Gaga has min-maxed to match the amount of DPS she puts out.
