A lot of the time they do. It's called a GM's screen. It's good for hiding notes and dice rolls that the players aren't supposed to see, and most of them have copies of important tables and rules for quick reference.

Yep, I have had one for GURPs and currently have one for D&D. Typically, they have tons of relevant info like status effects and what stuff like "cover".

Some people considering it a boon that it hides their die rolls from the players, giving the GM a little more control over the game if they want it.

Perhaps the issue with my experiences is that tabletop RPG session I've been in have generally been over the coffee table, where that is less effective. Then again, my GM just never used such a barrier; he used his hand or turned around if he needed a secret roll.
