Punchline: Through the lens of the Jock/Nerd Theory of History, the welfare state doesn't look like a serious effort to "equalize outcomes." It looks more like a serious effort to block the "revenge of the nerds" - to keep them from using their financial success to unseat the jocks on every dimension of social status.

But...with the exceptions of a a few incredible successful individuals and a few industries that tend to make a ton of money and are populated by nerds, the wealthiest continue to be successful business people...
And, the hardcore jocks (the ones that are professional jocks) tend to make a HELL OF A LOT more money then even the successful nerds.
I guess the jocks that can't go pro make less, but it's not really news that being a sports player in the minor leagues isn't going to pay big bucks.
The article would only make sense if the dreams of nerds ascending to the highest rung of the finical ladder was true, and sadly, being a nerd in high school doesn't grantee economic prosperity.

Actually, that just confuses his point more.
Is he lumping in all successful business people under "jocks"? Or he seems to be suggesting that "person with good social skills = jock"? That's quite a stretch there.
This comic perfectly articulates why I think that anyone caught using the phrase "sheeple" unironically should be slapped with great force as soon as it leaves their mouth.

And there are now A LOT of jocks that play Fantasy Football.
Actually, I think this highlights a trend that will greatly undermine his point, the line between Jock and Nerd is blurring quite a bit with "nerdy" stuff becoming much more accessible and consumed by the general populace.
