So, I looked more into the MordecaiXTwilight phenomenon and the earliest Deviant Art entries seem to be a possibly made in flash series of comics depicting a date in Canterlot where Mordecai has blonde hair and dresses nice.

It's cute, I suppose...

Also there's some sort of Youtube rap battle between the two...

Not sure how that was enough to make this a thing, but this is the internet.

Maybe it would help if I knew more about Mordecai, but it also doesn't seem to me they have a lot to build a relationship on.

Somehow, I could see Pinkie Pie and Dan working out...

Sonic and Rainbow Dash are, of course, built on the romantic idea of "Gotta go fast."

My understanding is that Twi/Mordecai was spearheaded by one insane DA user. Who portrays Mordecai completely out of character (and possibly Twi as well) to make the relationship work.

Much the same way that "Trixie eating pinecones" became a meme because a single person asked every artist they ever met to draw that theme. Ditto "Rarity fighting a giant crab."

I think they tried turning that into the next MLP:FIM, but it didn't take.

I'm not sure how much anyone likes it; it struck me as pretty bland from what little I saw of it, and the Flash left much to be desired...

It seems Hasbro thinks we've entered some sort of golden age where teens and adults will automatically go ga-ga over children's cartoons.

You think they would have pieced together that it first requires a show adults can actually enjoy.

Second, it helps if the makers of merchandise keep an eye out for what the adult fan-base wants and at least caters to it with the merch, games, etc...

I can see getting into the show ironically, because honestly I feel part of the appeal of getting into it as a male adult is undermining expectations of my age and gender, but there was an ulterior motive for some beyond that?
