I just read a bit of that article, and it does seem like Hollywood has two currents that aren't easily reconciled: The more hippie-ish "New Hollywood" generation that eventually became some of the biggest stars in the industry (despite a few famous blow-outs), and the more reactionary "First Blood" current that was big in the 1980s and seemed to revolve around Sylvester Stallone at first. It's like a microcosm of California itself -- a weird combination of liberal and conservative, separated by a few mountain ranges and freeways.

As for the rest, though...I do think he's overreaching a bit. Saying all comic-book movies are fascist propaganda because Frank Miller is a reactionary jerk is like saying all independent films are lifeless twaddle because you've only watched Gerry.
