Yes, St. Elsewhere really did have an "all just a dream" ending. And then, to top it off, they killed the MTM kitten over the end credits. Poor kitty. :(
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I always assumed the reason Frankie didn't have an imaginary friend of her own was that she grew up around Madame Foster, and as such was always around all the other imaginary friends at the foster home.
...Now I'm wondering what Frankie's childhood was like, if she lived at Foster's growing up. I would totally read fanfiction about that.

Ah, the internet, where a TV show's cop-out ending can become a meme 20 years after it aired.
What bothers me about St. Elsewhere's ending isn't that that show ended up being a dream, but rather that it makes almost a hundred other shows invalid by default, owing to crossovers.
There's actually a guy (dunno the name off the top of my head) who has argued that by some kind of LOGIC, the twist ending to St. Elsewhere actually never happened.
I dunno, if I remembered more I could probably look it up.
