a bunch of whatever is happening in girl genius, but importantly, there's been a character with the "hair over one eye" thing and it was just casually revealed that the hidden eye is gone. so that's unexpected and kind of weirding me out for some reason.
David Willis has gotten so bad at writing villains that he's made me feel legitimately sympathetic towards one of the biggest jerks in Dumbing of Age. By accident.
Technically, considering Radical precedes the creation of the United States and first entered the world in what I presume was a North American Forest, he might actually be a citizen in a weird sort of way.
It's a moot point anyways. When the government has turned into a dictatorship, line of succession is what the dictator says it is.
I think it's only Books 3 through 7 though. I assume he hasn't gotten to the latter books yet, and, well, it'd take more than modern shading to fix the issues with the juvenalia that is the first two books.
Now that I think about it, maybe the fact that she's an eldritch abomination of metal was why she was able to bully the guy with rubber monster gloves so easily
Kiwi Blitz is what Mary Cagle decided to do when drawing blog posts about her English teaching job finally petered out, right? Been meaning to check into that.
so i was flipping through latchkey kingdom on account of it's great, and i thought of something i hadn't before in "Shade". the storyline was a bit weird for me in that Rose hardly seems like some kind of evil secret agent, especially given that the shadows in the comic aren't really malicious - even the snipe doesn't really do much more than knock willa around a bit. So Rose's confusion is probably genuine, but why would she be like that? but: Debbie mentions that shadows must be able to reproduce, and in the last color panel you can see the snipe running off. the reproduction thing mainly seems like an opportunity to have debbie blush about stupid shit, but it does take up a whole page, it's like a flashing "this is important" sign but it doesn't come up explicitly in the chapter. so what if shadows reproduce by attacking someone and making a shadow clone of them? they're newborn and don't really understand they're a shadow and just have this copy brain. how trippy would that be
I love how in awful hospital, greenie has slowly adapted to her ridiculous environment, stabs people, etc, but is still bent on being a mother to the extent that she treats kids appropriately even when they're a barely anthropomorphic anastomosis
i'm glad that because of how all webcomics start, the bookend had to be "there's a disease that turns children into twenty foot lumberjack stereotypes, diagnosed by the projectile vomiting of maple syrup"
I also think I managed to miss when Morbi inserted that post-facto third arc, which manages to make Mary's status a bit clearer regarding the whole "fake nun" thing. She's a good character.
And I would totally take that extra markhor nerd boyfriend off her hands. >w>; She'd probably thank me.
For the record, cloak comes from cloaca, so she's basically calling him a dick.
Morbi also wrote up a thing on his tumblr about non-cis genderstuff on Flora. The short version is that with non-mammalian species, the visual difference is negligible enough that transitioning is socially less of a big deal. Gender doesn't even really come up with a few of the non-mammalian species unless dating comes up; Poppy's suchian fangirl, for example, has none of the typical feminine signifiers and frankly no one gives a damn about it.
As it stands, the species that has the most conflict about LGBT issues is opossums, and that's largely because everybody wants to wipe out the species, which makes having a ton of children important, and possums can't use the magic fruit trees that other species use to avoid incompatible genders and general logistic issues when having a child.
Oh, no, I knew that Hallia was trans* from reading his prior comments, and I'd picked up on pretty much all the rest except that last bit about possum culture, including the "cloak" thing—the joke is in the file name and I'm very familiar with a wide array of animal anatomy. (I nerd out about the strangest things.)
I just felt feelings there. Hallia is kind of fantastic. The bit with the flask just makes things even better. Valente being a very butch gay dude (and a bit of a creep about it) also makes a weird kind of sense; I like those sorts of small details.
Also, this comic gets fucking hardcore about two pages after that. I mean wow. Dude has this seriously thought out. And the details are... bleak.

Is it just me, or does this remind anyone else of Hellevator from Utena?

i like how all these ridiculously terrible things happened in the past and people just don't have much reason to mention it
however, so far no strings or string theory are actually involved. mysterious
