Actually I take that back, a few pages later when the Dwarf sets him on fire, and then a few pages after that where Kin stabs him to death is even better.
Eh, I prefer the one where Thaco destroys his self-respect, but that's a good one too.
That sequence is the thing that got me into this comic, incidentally. I didn't even know who Dellyn was at this point, but the rape line was all I needed to dislike him.

I do like the whole setup to have him join their team, and then the revelation that quickly brings the their relationship to a screeching halt like so much person thrown through a window.
I also love Minmax's "Nuh-uh! I've done WAY dumber things!"
The whole Goblin "You can't escape your destiny" thing is interesting. I'm not quite sure where they're going to go with it.
I'll be surprised if Dies makes it to the end of the story, but I'll be surprised if most characters do, really.
Dies has escaped many an unpleasant death despite his name, and with all the crazy plot stuff going on around him, I doubt he'll be gone anytime soon.

I think Dies has a good chance, actually, considering that he has technically died horribly already. He just happened to survive death.
Even the most fresh-from-boot Marine can tell you there's a million things wrong with this.
First off, he has 50, count em' 50 medals and ribbons. Ribbons and medals have a real function of basically putting your entire service record up at a glance, and every servicemember can read them like a book.
Navy (Service) Cross, with what looks like a star denoting that he's been awarded two of them. The Navy Cross is second only to the Medal of Honor which means they are very, very rarely handed out. Much less so for second awards.
A Silver Star, second only the Navy (Service) Cross.
A Navy "E" medal. Marines are a part of the Navy, but this particular medal, as I've seen, only goes to the Broadside (Sailor) side of the house, not Greenside (Marines.)
Good Conduct Medals for both active duty and reservists. It's not exactly uncommon for someone to flip in and out of reserve and active duty, but for all the ribbons and medals this guy has, it's beyond unlikely.
Antarctic/Arctic service medal. Awarded to Navy/Marine personnel who kick it above or below the respective arctic/antarctic circles. Not very common to see on a Marine.
2 tours on the drill field. Which (usually) means 1 tour as a Drill Instructor for enlisted recruits, and 1 tour as a Drill Instructor for officer candidates. Very, very demanding job at 3 years per tour with little to no time off. This guy is claiming 6 years doing this along with reserve duty, but that's not all ...
EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) badge. Awarded to members of EOD who go through a very rigorous training and OJT training. EOD is no fucking joke.
Jump wings. He managed to find time to go to jump school which is pretty selective.
Navy SEALs badge. As far as I know, only Broadside sailors can attempt to join the SEALs. So sometime between 6 years on the drill field, EOD, kicking it in the reserve, earning a Navy Cross or two, this guy found time to leave the Marines, join the Navy, go into the SEALs, finish his time there, and then come back.
What really sells this entire package? His physique. After basically doing everything that would make Rambo look like Bambi, he lets himself go. ...and the fact that nobody's ever heard of this superhero.
Related to ^^^ did you know you can apparently just buy fake medals?
Like, they wouldn't fool anyone who's actually in the armed service, but you totally can. Some that are just generic, others that look like mockups of real ones.

Most ribbons and medals are easily available at an base cash sales. The higher up ones, like the Service Crosses and Medal of Honor are much harder to come by. But I wouldn't put it past anyone making mockups of the ribbons. Also, there's this:
This is Lt. Gen Chesty Puller. He's the most decorated Marine who's ever lived, he's an absolute legend in the Marine Corps. 5 Navy crosses. FIVE. And his stack here doesn't even compare to what the faker has going on up there.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Not so much a joke but the observation that post-boot Marines at the School of Infantry aren't allowed to have much more than can fit in a backpack (outside their issued gear of course) and the only way they can escape the 52 area of base -- where all combat training takes place -- is on an overpriced shuttlebus.
52 area really is fucking miserable, by the way. At the very end of my combat training I broke my foot well beyond a simple stress fracture. Fortunately this was at the end of our training and on the last hike. Now, if I would have reported my foot and it gotten x-rayed, I would have been stuck at 52 area for at least another three months. So I sucked it up, flat out lied to the medical tech and had him x-ray my other foot, and flew out to Fort Meade the next day, to where I told my new Gunny there that I arrived with a broken foot. Anyway that's how much 52 area sucks.
edit: and the fact that I own the PC-Engine CD release of Zero Wing? another coincidence

I have been on the phone with the VA about my education benefits being snagged momentarily over a trivial paperwork hangup. For the past 3 hours. This comic is entirely accurate.

The Oatmeal was fun for a while, but the preachy-bullshit is just getting a little too close to neck high. I'm calling it quits rather than finish my archive binge.
There's a very, very long story as to why, and it's not a rational hatred in any way. But I don't like puppet shows in general, the muppets in particular.

this is great
Holy fucking mood whiplash batman.
We've gone from comedy to meta-commentary on D&D to a Dwarf Paladin killing an entire camp of sympathetic orcs and ogres and a dwarven child.
what the fuck, dude?
Dang, they ain't kidding. O_o

Yeah, I...never read that part of the story. Only the aftermath of it. Else I would have warned you guys.
I have a fairly high tolerance for this sort of thing.
Not sure about anyone else.

Destroys' whose?
And yeah Dellyn is kind of an ass.
Which may be the biggest understatement made since that one guy who said Hitler was "unpleasant".
I'm not sure I agree with the philosophy the author's spinning here.
So Saves-a-Fox actually did save the fox? That's rather bleak, in context.
I'm disappointed that the story doesn't go further.
How long has it been since this guy's updated?

So, Three Word Phrase is great.
Dunno if it's just me, but...that doesn't seem very extreme. Am I just desensitized?

I mean, there is rape in the comic, but it's off-screen and very, very vilified.

okay I need to sit down now.
Because I mean, if someone's earned a chestfull of medals, I'd rather expect them to look... Dignified. And not fat.

also it might just be my imagination but some of these strips seem to have a very Japanese, manga-influenced humor about them.
especially that last line, sounds like something someone in a 4koma would say.
