How old were you when you got your first cell phone?

Because I’m curious.

I got mine as a Christmas gift when I was 16.

I didn’t really have any friends to call or text, but at the time I was taking classes in other parts of the state every few weeks, and my parents wanted to make sure I could stay in contact with them.

    I was...twelve I think. My parents were terrified I'd get lost on the way home from school now that I was taking public transit instead of school bus, or something. I don't remember ever actually using that phone for anything, only a couple of my friends had cell phones and I was very much not into numpad texting.

    It was when I went off to college.  My parents got me a Nokia phone with some sort of no-contract plan.

    This was discontinued later in favor of me joining a family plan.
