I feel like people have completely forgotten that almost every cable channel that showed anything interesting - A&E, Bravo, Discovery, TLC, a bunch more - got run through the blanderizer or went downmarket, and godawful tacky reality shows started jamming up the broadcast networks' schedules like a disease, because people are too busy masturbating to HBO

I have seen it proposed that there have been more "good" (as in "intelligent and thought-provoking" or whatever) shows in the past couple decades than previously.

But this is not something I care to verify myself.

I mean like, Mad Men and Breaking Bad started in the late 00s, so I guess that's around when everyone started deciding the TV Is Good Now. I don't think anyone thinks the early 00s were a golden age.
